Edwards v. Aguillard

482 U.S. 578 (1987).

A 1987 United States Supreme Court opinion in which the Court declared a Louisiana law unconstitutional which forbade teaching of theory of evolution in public schools unless accompanied by instruction in theory of “creation science.”  The court determined the law to be facially invalid as violative of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment because it lacked a clear secular purpose.
