What is Education Support in Schools?


Classroom teachers are the primary channels of education provided in schools. Various staff members are also on hand to assist students in different ways.

Tutoring services offer close and personal education support for the student’s academic development. There are people who are skilled and trained to provide tutoring services but the student’s peers can sometimes act as tutors as well. Tutors can assist the student in a particular subject, or also work with them in a variety of subjects.

Students having a different native language get assistance from ESL (English as a Second Language) specialists and bilingual teachers. All aspects of learning are possibly affected by one’s language abilities, therefore, are also assisted in other subjects aside from developing their skills in English.

Additional support is offered by staff from the library and media services. Staff members provide various materials like books, encyclopedias, filmstrips and other forms of media used by students in their homework and research purposes. They can also guide students in finding other sources usually located outside of the school, like those situated in public or state libraries.

Majority of education support is mostly done by the school’s guidance or counseling office. As students go through elementary and secondary schooling, personnel can provide assistance in addressing personal and social problems that may occur inside the school or affect the student’s academic performance. Individual meetings are arranged whenever the student wishes for privacy. Group meetings provide the student an opportunity to share common ground with those experiencing similar circumstances. Counselors can also assist new students in adjusting to their school environment.

Academic advisers offer education support as students go through middle school and junior high. They help students realize what is required for them to graduate. Admission into college and vocational needs are some of the concerns that are also addressed. Academic advisers also make the student’s schedule become more efficient by trying to fit all desired subjects.

Second or third year high school students receive counseling with regards to their preference of college and careers. Guidance counselors can make available to students some testing and applications. They can also suggest choices that match with the abilities and goals of the student and give transcripts and recommendations.

Special education services that give education support are made available throughout the child’s K-12 experience. Various professionals who comprise the special education team collaborate to accomplish the Individual Education Program or IEP of the child. Teachers, counselors, psychologists, physical or occupational therapists, vision specialists, speech language pathologists, instructional assistants are among the people who provide assistance and support.
