Blue Sky Laws

(n) Laws that guard the general public from buying stocks in fake corporations that lack real value, such as dry oil wells and swamp lands. These laws mandate that corporations and brokers selling properties or shares to a property must first obtain approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission or the state corporations. “Blue skies” refer to the stock shares and properties that have no real value.
