Best Evidence Rule

LexRoll.com > Law Dictionary > Evidence Law > Best Evidence Rule

In evidence law, the best evidence rule provides that a party who seeks to prove the contents of a writing must produce the original of that writing.  The rule is subject to exceptions which permit proof that the original is unavailable for reasons other than the serious fault of the proponent of the nonoriginal.
